Roadwork: Cambria work may cause delays

Drivers can expect lengthy delays on Bedford Street/Elton Road between Lamberd Avenue in Geistown Borough to Industrial Park Road in Richland Township, Cambria County, from Monday Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 8.

Drivers can expect lane closures with flaggers and delays up to 15 minutes for utility (water/gas) relocation, traffic signal interconnect and bridge lighting work between U.S. 219 northbound on and off ramps and Donald Lane. Utility companies may also be performing utility pole and line relocation on Elton Road between Vo-Tech Drive and Industrial Park Road during the same dates.

The potential also exists for delays on Bedford Street/Elton Road at the intersections with Leventry Road, Oakridge Drive, Macridge Avenue, Vo-Tech Drive and Industrial Park Road, for utility pole and line relocation by Penelec.

A Liberoni, Inc., Plum, is the lead contractor for the two-year, 2.5-mile, $9.5 million Route 756 resurfacing project, which includes paving/resurfacing, sight distance and intersection safety improvements, the addition of left turning lanes, improved drainage, shoulder widening, the inclusion of bicycle-safe grates and the replacement of traffic signals and overhead signs.

I-99 Sproul to Newry project updated

Lane restrictions, shoulder-width reductions and short delays continue on I-99 between the Exit 15 Claysburg/King interchange outside Sproul at mile marker 15 to the Newry crossover on I-99 near mile marker 26.

From Monday, April 27, to Friday, May 8, drivers can expect lane restrictions, a speed reduction to 60 MPH, and short, intermittent delays in both the northbound and southbound lanes from about mile marker 22 to mile marker 26 for rumble strip removal and paving in preparation for the long-term lane closures later in the project.

The East Freedom interchange bridge over I-99 remains under a 8-feet 5-inch-width reduction in both the eastbound and westbound lanes for bridge rehabilitation work.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., State College, is the lead contractor of the 23.02-mile, $24 million project, which includes overlay paving, the rehabilitation of seven dual bridges (four during the 2026 construction season) and the Exit 23 (Roaring Spring/Portage) bridge over I-99, and the installation of five intelligent transportation system dynamic message boards in Allegheny, Blair, Freedom and Greenfield townships in Blair County. The overall project is scheduled for completion in June 2028.  

Huntingdon bridge project underway

Short delays from lane restrictions continue on Old Plank Road in Todd Township, Huntingdon County, for a bridge project over the unnamed tributary of Great Trough Creek. 

Single-lane restrictions, standard daylight flagging operations and short delays can be expected Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 8, on Old Plank Road near the Newburg School Road intersection.    

Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc., of Everett, is the lead contractor for the $788,143 project, which includes the complete replacement of an existing I-beam bridge with a single span reinforced concrete spread box beam bridge. A temporary roadway using part of Tatman Run Drive will be built to maintain Route 994 traffic during construction, but a temporary closure of Tatman Run Drive will occur to build the temporary roadway.

Cambria County bridge demolition set

PennDOT has announced a planned overnight closure and detour of Route 219 under Mt. Airy Drive in Richland Township, Cambria County, on Tuesday, April 28, and Wednesday, April 29.

During the week of April 27, the contractor will implement short-term overnight closures for bridge demolition and beam erection.

Route 219 southbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, until 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, and Route 219 northbound lanes will be closed from 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, to 5 a.m. Thursday, April 30.

Route 219 overnight detours will use Galleria Drive, Solomon Run Road, Airport Road, Frankstown Road, Ragers Hill Road, and Route 219 at the Sidman Exit.

Before and after the overnight closures, Route 219 under the Mt. Airy Drive bridge will remain under single lane restrictions both northbound and southbound. Mt. Airy Drive remains closed with traffic using a 2.9-mile detour on Solomon Run Road, Galleria Drive and Oakridge Drive.

J.F. Shea Construction Inc., Mount Pleasant, is the lead contractor for the $2.3 million Mt. Airy Drive over Route 219 Bridge Rehabilitation Project. The project is scheduled for completion in October.

NS track work planned in Tipton

On behalf of Norfolk Southern Railroad, PennDOT is informing drivers of an upcoming road closure and detour in Tipton, Blair County, for railroad crossings maintenance.

Tipton Road in Tipton will be closed and detoured for several days between Wednesday, May 6, and Wednesday, May 13. The exact dates have not yet been determined, and are dependent on several factors, including track time, equipment issues, and weather.

The Tipton Road detour route will use Route 220/Route 1001 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard and Grazierville Road.

Delays expected for bridge work

Delays are expected on Old Route 220 / Dunnings Highway in Duncansville beginning Tuesday, April 28, for a project to replace the bridge over Blair Gap Run.

Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., State College, is the lead contractor for the $5.1 million project (Bid with the Route 3013 Dry Run bridge replacement project) that includes the replacement of the bridge over Blair Gap Run, as well as intersection improvement work, inlet repair, curb upgrades and milling and paving. The project is expected to be completed in October.
