Windmill blade deliveries to cause delays
From Mirror staff reports
Windmill blades will be transported through portions of Bedford, Cambria and Somerset counties this week, according to a PennDOT news release.
A windmill blade destined for the Cambria Wind LLC Farm off Route 56 in Ogle Township, Somerset County, is scheduled to depart from a Maryland facility at 8 a.m. Tuesday and travel north on U.S. 220/Interstate 99 through Bedford County, before exiting onto Route 56 (Quaker Valley Road/Clear Shade Drive) through Bedford and Somerset counties to the wind farm.
Another blade, destined for the Highland North Wind Farm near Beaverdale, Cambria County, is scheduled to leave from a Maryland facility at 8 a.m. Thursday and travel north on U.S. 219 through Somerset and Cambria counties, and travel on Route 869 (Locus Street) and Route 160 (Mill Road) to the wind farm.
Drivers should remain alert for these slow-moving, two-lane operations and use alternate routes when possible. Traveling both the posted speed limit and slower as needed, these superloads will occasionally pull over to allow traffic to pass.
