New details have been released in the case of a Hopewell man who allegedly caused a police standoff Monday in Roaring Spring when officers attempted to execute a warrant for his arrest.
Coty Allen Hale, 35, was arraigned Monday by Magisterial District Judge Kayla Hetzel on single felony counts of making terroristic threats and risking a catastrophe. He was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility with bail denied because “no condition or combination of conditions will ensure compliance,” online court documents state.
State police at Bedford were contacted Sunday by a Northern Bedford County School District administrator about a threat to the school. The administrator gave officers a screenshot of a Facebook post made by Hale about 6:18 p.m. in which he said he spoke with a lawyer at Evey Black Attorneys and told them he wish they knew “how hard I’ve been working and playing by your f**kin rules.” Hale then directly addressed the school district, saying “you f**kers just watch and let the devil do his work … I’m gonna get ya back I promise. I’m blowing your f**kin doors off,” according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Officers were notified about 6 a.m. Monday of an additional Facebook post made by Hale that showed a photo of a portable charger wrapped in white cables and black electrical tape. It is unclear if this device “was a legitimate improvised explosive device,” the police report states.
In the post, Hale said the device was “number 1 in my arsenal everyday” and addressed the police, saying “4 squad cars? Over a Facebook post about calling a lawyer … Okay Bedford County let’s f**kin play a game. It’s called I’m 10 steps ahead of ya.” A third Facebook post by Hale stated “whenever judge Hershey wants to listen to me and hear my side, I’ll come out of the woods. F**k PSP,” the report states.
The posts resulted in “a heavy police presence” both at the school district and surrounding areas, the report states.
Hale entered into a standoff with police Monday at a residence along Poplar Street in Roaring Spring after officers tried to execute a warrant for his arrest. He was ultimately taken into custody without injury after surrendering to police, the report states.
Hale is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 1 in front of Hetzel.
