Superloads moving through area
Roadwork: News in brief from PennDOT
Superloads hauling Nacelles (windmill motor housing) will be going through Blair and Cambria counties today and Friday.
Destined for the Highland North Wind Farm in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, the superloads will leave Clearfield County at 7 a.m. on both days and access I-99 in Centre County, before continuing into Blair County on I-99 to Route 22. The load will enter Cambria County on Route 22 and access Route 219 in Ebensburg. The load will travel south on U.S. 219 to the St. Michael-Sidman Exit to access Route 869 (Locus Street), travel through St. Michael and Sidman to Route 160 (Forest Hills Drive) and Route 869 (Beaver Run Avenue) to its destination.
Roadwork on I-99, Route 322
A highway reconstruction project impacting I-99 and Route 322 in College and Worth townships is set to get underway on Tuesday, March 31. This project will improve ride quality and extend the service life of about 1.5 miles of roadway, as well as correct settlement issues on three bridges within the work zone.
Starting Tuesday, the contractor will close the right lane of I-99 southbound near Exit 61/Port Matilda and on Route 322 westbound near the Innovation Park/Penn State University exit. While these lanes are closed, the off-ramps at both exits will also be closed, and detours will be in place.
PennDOT anticipates these exits will remain closed and the detours in place until early June.
The detour for the Port Matilda exit will direct drivers off I-99 at exit 68/Grays Woods-Waddle, where they will take Route 3042 (Skytop Mountain Road) to Alternate 220 and follow it to Port Matilda. The detour for the Innovation Park/Penn State University exit will have drivers continue along Route 322 westbound, merge onto I-99 southbound, take exit 71/Woodycrest-Toftrees, follow Waddle Road to the on-ramp for I-99 northbound, merge onto I-99 northbound and follow it back to Route 322 eastbound and the Innovation Park/Penn State University exit on the eastbound side.
Once the contractor completes work on the right lanes, work will shift to the left lanes. PennDOT will issue an update before work shifts to the left lanes.
Work on this contract includes highway reconstruction, guide rail installation, line painting and miscellaneous construction. Francis J. Palo Inc., of Clarion, is the contractor on this $1.8 million project.
PennDOT anticipates project completion near the end of August, but schedules are subject to change due to weather or other circumstances.
Route 30 concrete patching planned
Drivers may face minor delays on Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) in East Providence Township, Bedford County, from Monday, April 6, to Friday, May 22.
Drivers can expect closure of the westbound lane and short delays of three to five minutes on Route 30 between the Post House Road intersection and the Pennsylvania Turnpike off ramp in Breezewood for concrete patching operations.
Cottle’s Asphalt Maintenance Inc., Everett, is the lead contractor for the 23-mile, $20.9 million project which includes concrete patching operations.
