Penn Cambria OKs change order for storage building project

District approves storage building project at $231K

CRESSON — The Penn Cambria School Board approved a change order Tuesday to the general construction bid for the purchase, construction and assembly of a storage building from J.C. Orr & Son Inc. in the amount of $231,605.

Superintendent Jamie Hartline said the building is needed because the district’s current maintenance garage will be demolished, as it sits in an area where a new two-story addition will be built on the high school campus as part of Penn Cambria’s consolidation project.

“We are constructing a new storage building so we have somewhere to store all of our equipment and it’s also going to double as paper storage,” Hartline said.

The board also approved an agreement with Clark Contractors Inc. for the purchase and installation of fencing at the high school softball field at a total cost of $76,980 through Keystone Purchasing Network Job Order Contracting.

Hartline said the fencing turned up as somewhat of an emergency expense for the district because the footing of the current fencepost lifted up out of the ground over the winter months. The next softball season is “upon us,” Hartline noted.

“It has lost its structural integrity and it was kind of lifted up out of the ground,” Hartline said of the current fencepost.

In other business, the board approved the 2026-27 general fund budget for Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, which includes a total contribution of $173,000 from 35 participating school districts, according to the meeting’s agenda.

Penn Cambria’s share estimate is $5,066.

Hartline also announced Penn Cambria received a $10,000 donation from Knopp and Klatt Excavation & Concrete for the district’s nearly $10 million stadium renovation project.

Hartline thanked the company for its donation and noted the generosity brings the district’s total amount of donated funds for the project to $845,100.
