Kid on the street: What do You want to be when you grow up?

Mila

CARROLLTOWN — Encouraged to dream big at Cambria Heights’ kids’ career fair, some kindergarteners and first graders shared their career aspirations with the Mirror.

Thinking of lab coats and beakers, kindergartener Mila Sink of Bakerton wants to be a scientist when she grows up.

She said she wants to work in science so she can study the physical and natural world, such as plants.

Sink’s peer, Susan Maher of Ashville, wants to become a doctor, where she would be able to regularly wear a lab coat and a stethoscope.

In the future, she said she’d like to work in a hospital and help adults.

Fatherly influence

Boone Beltowski, 5, dreams of being a logger “because my dad is one.”

A resident of Hastings, he’s looking forward to chopping down trees in his future.

“I want to be a crane operator like my dad,” said first grader Ryan Karlheim, “because I like high things.”

Boone

He’d like to use machinery in an elevated environment while wearing a yellow hard hat. While he likes the color yellow, he said he prefers gray because “it’s not too dark like black, and it’s not too light.”

Being creative

Working at a nail salon is kindergarten student Gianna Eckenrode’s definition of a dream job, as she enjoys painting nails.

She likes to paint nails pink, along with shades of red and purple.

While Eckenrode will handle nail care, 6-year-old student Everley Shaffer said, “I like to do people’s hair.”

Ryan

She likes the bun hairstyle the best because she frequently wears a bun while dancing.

Leila Stanek of Glendale dreams of being an artist because “I like to color and paint.”

She enjoys drawing “parts of beaches,” adding that her favorite beach is Sandbridge.

Responding first Patton resident Rayna Stephens, 6, has hopes of becoming a police officer, but not for the reasons one might typically think.

“‘Cause then people can’t eat donuts,” she said, stating that she will eat all the donuts instead.

Gianna

Her favorite donut flavors are strawberry and vanilla, and she prefers them from Dunkin’.

Murphy Brattron, 5, of Patton wants to be a firefighter “because I like to put out fires.” He also likes the cool hat firefighters wear.

Reaching the stars

First grader Mason Hrubochak of Patton said he wants to become an astronaut one day because “I know a lot about space.”

When asked what his favorite planet is, he said, “Earth because it’s the only place that has life in the solar system.”

Everley

His peer Evie Lehner, 6, has hopes of becoming a teacher so she can help children learn.
