GoFundMe started to aid family after Hollidaysburg house fire
A GoFundMe page was started to help the family affected by last week’s house fire in Hollidaysburg, where a man was rescued from the building and rushed to UPMC for treatment.
Josh Lafferty was put on a ventilator with a chest tube at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh to recover from external and internal burns, a collapsed lung, smoke inhalation, carbon monoxide poisoning, a head wound and severe burns.
He is currently in Pittsburgh awaiting a surgical procedure for a severe burn. The family expects Josh to undergo more surgeries in the future.
“He is in pain but doing well, and we are all so grateful for this,” said Josh’s aunt, Cynde Smith, who set up the GoFundMe page.
As of Wednesday afternoon, $6,088 had been raised out of the family’s goal of $10,000, with a total of 43 donations.
“I want to raise money to help with recovery, living expenses and Josh’s immediate medical needs while they are at the hospital,” the post states.
“Money for food, clothing or bills should not worry them. Josh’s recovery needs to be at the forefront of their concerns.”
Smith said that while her sister’s family remains homeless, they still have insurance and car bills to pay. Any donations to cover an apartment’s deposit and rent would be impactful.
