Ebensburg man killed in 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 99
An Ebensburg man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-99 early Friday morning. The crash was the result of a driver going the wrong way on the interstate, police reported.
According to the Blair County Coroner’s Office, 50-year-old Jason Hoppel died from blunt force injuries suffered in the crash. An autopsy was conducted Friday, the office reported.
Police reported that the driver of a 2015 Mercedes-Benz was traveling southbound in the northbound lane in Snyder Township when he struck a 2019 Mercedes-Benz at Mile Marker 48 near Tyrone.
Hoppel, the driver of the northbound Mercedes, was killed in the crash. The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to UPMC Altoona in critical condition, police reported.
The road was closed and traffic was detoured as police investigated the 5:48 a.m. crash.
Several fire companies, including Hookies, Neptune, Bellwood and Bald Eagle, along with PennDOT assisted at the scene with traffic control and cleanup.
