Additional repairs to Blair County Road 101 in Claysburg planned

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Additional repairs to Blair County Road 101 in the Claysburg area are to be scheduled for the summer.

During a meeting Thursday, commissioners Dave Kessling, Amy Webster and Laura Burke voted to ratify a construction plan and advertisement for the project in Greenfield and Freedom townships.

Webster said this summer’s work will involve road paving that wasn’t completed last summer when other efforts were underway.

Mirror records show that work on County Road 101 — also known as Bedford Street — dates back to March 2018 when then-commissioners Bruce Erb, Terry Tomassetti and Ted Beam Jr. agreed to initiate the project, using revenue from the annual $5 per vehicle registration fee to match available state funding. At that time, Claysburg area residents complained to commissioners about the road’s huge potholes and how the county’s practice of using asphalt to fill them was ineffective.

The road improvement project has since moved slowly, with subsequent commissioners having to address bridge, box culvert and drainage issues prior to paving.

Webster and Burke, who inherited the project when they became commissioners in January 2020, said after Thursday’s meeting that they welcome more progress on this effort.
