Martinsburg man held in alleged assault on three females

Houp accused of attacking three females

A Martinsburg man accused of physically assaulting three females is behind bars on felony aggravated assault charges.

Brenden Michael Houp, 24, was arraigned Tuesday night before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio on three felony counts of aggravated assault, three misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person and three misdemeanor counts of simple assault.

North Woodbury Township police were dispatched about 2:06 p.m. Tuesday to a home on the 100 block of Marian Ave., Martinsburg, where a male was allegedly attacking everyone, court documents state.

Police were advised that three females were assaulted and bleeding from their heads, the report states. Police were also told Houp fled the scene and was walking toward the Family Dollar.

Houp was located on the 300 block of South Market Street and placed into detention, police reported. While an officer read Houp his Miranda warnings, he kept saying to arrest him because he was going to jail, the affidavit of probable cause states.

Houp agreed to talk to police and explained that he attacked his mother and two other girls with a dog toy. He also told police he was upset over too many people living in the house and there being too many mouths to feed.

Police said the dog toy was a bone made of strong, hard plastic which eventually broke during the assaults, cutting one of the victims. When one victim attempted to flee, Houp allegedly kicked her and grabbed her by the neck, police reported.

Houp’s mother told police he is a highly functioning person with autism who was outraged over an old Jack Daniel’s whiskey glass.

All three victims were transported to Conemaugh Nason Hospital for treatment of their injuries, the report states. Houp was also later transported to the hospital for treatment of a hand injury, police said.

Unable to post $400,000 bail, Houp is being held at the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for March 5 before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger.

Starting at $2.99/week.
