Charges updated for suspect in Tyrone child pornography ring

Reese, Friday have cases bound to court in alleged Tyrone child pornography ring

BELLEFONTE — Investigators are only about one-fifth of the way through the alleged collection of child pornography files seized from a Tyrone home late last year, state police Trooper Jonathan Hodges said during a joint preliminary hearing Wednesday for two of the suspects.

Centre County Magisterial District Judge Casey M. McClain heard testimony from Hodges and two of the alleged victims, who spoke about the happenings inside the Taylor Township home of Samuel Friday, 67.

Both Friday and Morris Reese, 64, will have their cases bound over to county court, McClain ruled.

In addition, McClain agreed with the commonwealth’s request to amend Reese’s charges to reflect additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing investigation. More charges could be added as police continue to weed through the extensive collection of alleged child pornography.

According to court documents and Centre County prosecutors, Friday allegedly lured an unknown number of young girls to his home near Tyrone using offers of cash in exchange for sex acts with himself and several associates. Many of the interactions were filmed and photographed over a multi-year period, prosecutors said.

Friday

Friday currently faces two felony counts of human trafficking; two felony counts of patronizing a victim of human trafficking; 10 felony counts of child pornography; and four felony counts of sexual abuse of children.

Reese faces two felony counts of human trafficking; two felony counts of patronizing a victim of human trafficking; 10 felony counts of child pornography; plus two new counts of felony statutory sexual assault and one count of felony sexual assault, according to updated court documents.

During the hearing, the first victim told the court that she has known Friday and Reese since she was about 5 years old, and began receiving offers of money in exchange for sex acts from Friday when she was 14 years old.

Friday often filmed the sex acts, and later invited Reese and other men to participate.

The alleged abuse continued until summer 2025, the victim said.

Kobuck

At Friday’s request, the victim said she later invited her friend — the second victim to testify — to Friday’s home for the same scheme.

The second victim testified that the first victim “peer pressured” her into visiting Friday’s home, and that she “kind of” knew what type of acts Friday expected of her.

Both victims testified that Friday and Reese offered them money for a range of sex acts that were regularly filmed and photographed.

According to the second victim, she made five visits to Friday’s home, all including the same sex acts for cash assumption.

A search conducted by state police on Friday’s home in late 2025 uncovered a trove of VHS tapes, printed photographs and digital video and image files depicting sex acts between a number of minor girls and adult men, Hodges testified.

Woomer

Hodges said that officers recovered over 1.5 terabytes of files containing child abuse material and a large collection of homemade VHS tapes with similar content.

According to Hodges, investigators have only processed about 20% of the total VHS collection since the analysis began in November 2025.

Friday and Reese, along with James Kobuck, 61, and Michael H. Woomer, 66, were charged late last year with a range of felony charges in connection to their alleged involvement in the child abuse.

The initial charges filed against Friday, Reese and Woomer were subsequently withdrawn and replaced with expanded counts as investigators processed more of the evidence, according to First Assistant District Attorney Joshua Andrews.

Kobuck waived his right to a preliminary hearing, automatically binding his charges to court before Magisterial District Judge Donald M. Hahn, who also agreed to bind Woomer’s charges to court during a December 2025 hearing.

At a press conference in late November 2025, Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna described the case as “very much ongoing,” and said that prosecutors may file several rounds of amended charges as the full scope of the alleged abuse comes into light.
