The Marine Corps League’s Detachment 287 will commemorate the 81st anniversary of the flag raising atop Iwo Jima’s Mount Suribachi at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in Franklin Borough. The borough in Cambria County is the home of Sgt. Michael Strank, who was one of the flag raisers photographed by Joe Rosenthal on Feb. 23, 1945.

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a reception at Green Diamond Industrial (Franklin Borough), 1317 Main St., Johnstown. U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Paul Anderson (Ret.) will serve as the guest speaker.
