Tyrone Area School District revises academic calendar to add elementary ‘no school’ day

Inservice day will be Feb. 23

The Tyrone Area School Board revised the district’s academic calendar to reflect an additional “no school” day for students in pre-K through fourth grade on Monday, Feb. 23.

During the board’s regular meeting Tuesday, the board voted to approve a memorandum of agreement between the district and the Tyrone Area Education Support Professionals and the district’s financial reports and monthly expenditures.

The board then took a consensus vote to approve all other items on the agenda, which included a request to revise the district’s 2025-26 calendar.

During last week’s work session meeting, elementary Principal Kristin Musselman said the additional inservice day would allow the school’s teachers to have meaningful group conversations about the school’s state assessment data.

With the revision, there are 176 student days for the elementary school’s students and 177 student days for students in grades five through 12.

Student representatives Brayden Parsons, a senior, and Brielle Parker, a junior, gave reports to the board. Students are active with community service food drives and recently participated in PennDOT’s Paint the Plow program, according to their reports.

After adjourning, the board entered into an executive session to discuss personnel matters, board President Rose Black said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
