Tyrone man faces charges in fatal fentanyl overdose
Dittsworth held on felony count of drug delivery resulting in death
A Tyrone man is behind bars after allegedly providing the fentanyl that caused the overdose death of 39-year-old Daniel Gurekovich in July 2025.
Dennis William Dittsworth, 37, was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Kevin Stoltz on single felony counts of drug delivery resulting in death and possession with intent to deliver, as well as a single misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person. Unable to post $250,000 bail, Dittsworth was remanded to the Blair County Prison.
Tyrone police responded to a residence along the 1500 block of Blair Avenue on July 21 for a report of a man suffering cardiac arrest. On scene, officers found that Gurekovich had been chewing a plastic “pain strip” before collapsing and being pronounced dead by a deputy coroner. Officers reported seeing drug paraphernalia near Gurekovich, including two other clear, plastic strips, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
A witness told officers that Gurekovich appeared “out of it” when they last saw him. The witness said Gurekovich mentioned getting a fentanyl strip from Dittsworth, the police report states.
A second witness contacted police on Aug. 25, saying they had recorded her confrontation of Dittsworth about Gurekovich’s death. The witness said Dittsworth admitted to selling two fentanyl strips to Gurekovich for $160. In reviewing the video, officers noted Dittsworth saying “it is my fault” and admitting to selling Gurekovich the strips on July 19. Dittsworth also allegedly admitted to giving Gurekovich fentanyl in the past, the report states.
A toxicology report from the deputy coroner later confirmed Gurekovich died from an accidental fentanyl overdose, according to the affidavit.
Dittsworth is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Feb. 3 in front of Stoltz.
