A Tyrone man faces charges after an investigation into cocaine trafficking in Blair County.

Larry D. Evans, 65, was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver and misdemeanor charges of possession of a small amount – not to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Unable to post $75,000 bail, Evans was remanded to the Blair County Prison.

According to the Altoona Police Department, state police and the Blair County Drug Task force conducted surveillance on Evans’ residence in Tyrone Borough, where they saw a white Toyota Rav 4 arrive at the home on Thursday.

Police saw the Toyota’s driver enter the home, then both the driver and Evans left the residence, got into separate vehicles and went north on Columbia Avenue.

Police then followed the vehicles, with uniformed officers from Altoona and Tyrone police departments initiating traffic stops on both Evans’ vehicle and the Toyota.

Evans was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant, police stated, and Altoona Police K-9 Blue was brought to the scene. Blue alerted on both vehicles, at which time both vehicles were impounded and towed to the police department, the report states.

Police also sought and received search warrants for both vehicles and Evans’ residence. The searches turned up 2 ounces of cocaine, with a street value of approximately $2,000; 5 ounces of marijuana, with a street value of $1,500; and drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as James Gardner, 36, of Tyrone, was released from custody and misdemeanor charges will be filed against him at a later date, police reported.

Evans is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 27 before Magisterial District Judge Kevin Stoltz.

Starting at $2.99/week.
