Tyrone Borough Council seeks to fill seat
Deadline to submit letters of interest for vacant position is Jan. 30
TYRONE — Borough Council is seeking letters of interest for a vacant council position after approving a resolution during Monday’s meeting.
The resolution declared Rob Poust’s seat vacant after he declined to accept the council position he won in November’s general election. Poust no longer lives within the borough, according to the resolution.
Interim Borough Manager Kim Gurekovich said the vacancy will be advertised and public interviews for the vacancy could take place as early as the council’s February meeting.
There’s a Jan. 30 deadline for letters of interest, Gurekovich said. If public interviews for the position don’t happen in February, the position will be filled no later than March, she said.
In other business, the council made a formal motion to advertise for the borough manager position, which Gurekovich has filled temporarily since former manager Ardean Latchford resigned in September 2025.
While giving his report to the council, Water Superintendent Don Shultz said the borough is in the process of a systemwide water meter changeout because meters are at their end of life expectancy.
About 600 of the borough’s 2,500 meters have already been swapped out, Shultz said, noting the borough has tried notifying people to change their meters — to no avail.
“We still have a long way to go,” Shultz said. “The sooner we get their meter changed out, the sooner problems could be avoided.”
There were no public comments made during the meeting.
