Motion for acquittal denied for former Bellwood-Antis wrestling coach

Andrekovich convicted in connection with Blazier case

The Blair County Clerk of Courts has denied a motion for judgment of acquittal in the case against the former Bellwood-Antis School District wrestling coach who failed to keep fellow coach Ryan Blazier from unsupervised contact with students in 2019 and 2020.

Timothy D. Andrekovich, 61, was previously convicted on one felony count of endangering the welfare of children following a jury trial in early July and subsequently sentenced on Aug. 25 to three months to 23 months in prison.

Senior Judge Richard A. Lewis of Dauphin County, who presided over both Andrekovich’s jury trial and sentencing, also ordered Andrekovich to pay a $2,500 fine and complete 200 hours of community service.

In an order dated Jan. 13, Blair County Clerk of Courts Robin G. Patton denied “by operation of law” Andrekovich’s post-sentence motion for judgment of acquittal filed Sept. 4 after reviewing the case’s file and “seeing no ruling by the court within 120 days.”

During a hearing in Blair County court on Nov. 6, defense attorney Todd Michael Mosser told Lewis that there was “no direct evidence (Andrekovich) violated his duty of care” at the school.

Senior Deputy Attorney General Lauren Eichelberger, who prosecuted Andrekovich’s case alongside Julia van Leeuwen, argued that a previously filed motion for acquittal had been denied and that “the trial transcript speaks for itself.”

She said Andrekovich was the overseer of the district’s wrestling program and that a parent had a conversation with him about why children were being left alone with Blazier.

Lewis then told Mosser and Eichelberger that he would need to go over the case law cited before handing down his opinion. However, Lewis retired at the end of 2025 with no opinion having been filed.

Mosser was unable to be reached and it remains unclear if he plans to refile the motion on Andrekovich’s behalf.

It also remains unclear if Andrekovich has reported to the Blair County Prison to begin his sentence, as he has remained free on unsecured $50,000 bail pending the outcome of his appeal.
