Gibbons Funeral Home reopens in Ashville

ASHVILLE — A familiar funeral service has recently returned to the Ashville community, continuing a legacy built over many years while beginning a new chapter under local ownership.

Gibbons Funeral Home reopened in mid-January under new ownership and is once again serving families in Ashville and surrounding communities. The funeral home is currently operating under the Gibbons Funeral Home name and plans to transition to Gibbons-Penksa Funeral Home once the ownership process is fully finalized.

For many years, Daniel Gibbons and the Gibbons family dedicated themselves to serving local families with compassion, professionalism and care. Their work established Gibbons Funeral Home as a trusted presence in the community, and the reputation the funeral home holds today is a direct reflection of their years of faithful service.

The funeral home is now led by Kayla Penksa, a licensed funeral director, who oversees day-to-day operations and guides families through funeral arrangements. Alongside her husband, Michael Penksa, the Penksas have emphasized their intention to honor the values and standards established by the Gibbons family, while continuing to provide dignified, local service.

“Our focus is on honoring the legacy of Gibbons Funeral Home and the work Daniel Gibbons and his family have done for this community,” said Kayla Penksa. “We are committed to providing the same level of care, dignity and personal service that families have come to expect.”

Daniel Gibbons expressed his support for the transition and confidence in the future of the funeral home.

“Gibbons Funeral Home has been a part of the Ashville community for many years, and it has been an honor to serve families during some of their most difficult moments,” Gibbons said. “As this chapter comes to a close, I am confident that the funeral home is being entrusted to the right people. I believe the Penksas will honor the traditions and values that Gibbons Funeral Home has stood for while continuing to serve Ashville with integrity and respect. I am grateful to see the funeral home remain locally operated and to know that families will continue to be cared for close to home.”

Additional information regarding services and the upcoming name transition will be announced in the coming months.
