Clearfield man arrested for drugs
Traffic stop uncovers meth, hundreds of fentanyl bags
A Clearfield County man is behind bars after a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of hundreds of bags of fentanyl and nearly 1,000 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
Joseph Alvin, 41, of Dubois City was arrested Wednesday after a joint investigation between the Office of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police Troop C Vice Unit.
Altoona, Tyrone and Clearfield police departments, along with a K-9 unit and multiple state police units, were involved in the investigation, according to a news release from the AG’s office.
The takedown disrupted the flow of large quantities of dangerous narcotics being transported from Philadelphia into Clearfield County, Attorney General Dave Sunday said in a statement.
The traffic stop on Alvin’s vehicle came after a monthslong investigation, the report states, noting state police made the shop in Centre County after determining Alvin was en route to Clearfield County with the drugs.
During the stop, troopers seized 337 stamped bags of suspected fentanyl, with an approximate street value of $3,370; about 907 grams of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $27,000; a radio frequency device; miscellaneous paraphernalia and several cellular devices.
The investigation is ongoing, police reported.
Alvin was arraigned Wednesday night before Magisterial District Judge Donald M. Hahn in Centre County on two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver, along with misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and summary traffic violations.
Unable to post $405,000 bail, Alvin was remanded to the Centre County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 4 before Hahn.
