Terroristic threat charges from standoff incident bound to Bedford County Court

Peake waives right to hearing in standoff case

A Bedford man waived his rights to a preliminary hearing that was scheduled for Wednesday morning, sending his charges of alleged terroristic threats to the Bedford County Court of Common Pleas.

Lytton Edward Peake III, 50, is charged with misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats and simple assault and a summary charge of harassment following a police standoff at a Rainsburg home.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police were dispatched to the residence the morning of Jan. 7 following a report of alleged threats.

Peake allegedly broke items around the home with a baseball bat late on Jan. 6, before threatening to kill himself and a family member and to burn down their shared home.

When police arrived at the residence, Peake initially refused to leave the building, allegedly telling troopers “this thing is loaded,” referring to a crossbow in his possession, according to court documents.

A successful negotiation resulted in Peake surrendering without incident shortly after.

Peake was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Brian K. Baker and was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility without bail on Jan. 7.

According to court documents, Peake is awaiting scheduling of a pre-trial conference.
