Bedford County launches monthly hiking club

All skill levels welcome for trek of Mid State Trail

BEDFORD — A new way to get outside and connect with nature — and your neighbors — is hitting the trail this spring. The Discover Bedford County Hiking Club launches in March, offering guided, monthly hikes along the region’s most iconic trail: the Mid State Trail, known as “Pennsylvania’s Wildest Footpath.”

The club meets on the fourth Sunday of each month at Discover Bedford County (Bedford County Visitors Center). Participants should arrive between 12:45 and 1 p.m. and cars should depart promptly at 1 p.m. for the designated trailhead. All skill levels are welcome.

Hikes are led by Tony Barr, Mid State Trail Everett Region Manager, and Haley Feaster, an experienced local guide. The group explores segments of the Mid State Trail in Bedford County, which spans 327 miles from Maryland to the New York border and passes directly through the county’s scenic heart.

“We’re excited to offer a welcoming, monthly hiking experience for residents who want to explore the outdoors, get active, and connect with our local trail system,” said Brooke Kelly, executive director of Discover Bedford County.

Hikers should bring: Proper footwear, water and snacks and trekking poles (optional; a limited number will be available to borrow).

The 2026 hike schedule includes: March 22, April 26, May 24, June 28, July 26, Aug. 23, Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 22 and Dec. 27.

Starting at $2.99/week.
