Bedford man charged for terroristic threats
Alleged threats lead to standoff
A Bedford man is behind bars after he allegedly threatened to kill himself and a family member, which initiated a standoff with state police at Bedford.
Lytton Edward Peake III, 50, is facing misdemeanor charges of making terroristic threats and simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Peake’s family member called 911 about 10:25 a.m. Jan. 7 following escalating tensions in their shared home.
Peake threatened to kill himself, the victim and burn down their residence and went into a “fit of erratic behavior,” where he broke items inside the home with a baseball bat the evening of Jan. 6, according to the affidavit.
The victim told police that Peake has a history of mental health issues that result in “extreme behavior.” When police arrived at the residence along the 2000 block of Hunter Avenue in Rainsburg on Jan. 7, Peake allegedly told an officer that “this thing is loaded,” relating to a possible crossbow in his possession, the police report states.
After negotiations with the state police Special Emergency Response Team, Peake agreed to exit the residence without incident, according to a state police public information release.
Peak was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Brian K. Baker and was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility without bail for threatening suicide, homicide and arson while engaging in a police standoff. Peake is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Baker on Jan. 28, court documents state.
