Altoona man accused of assaulting woman
A city man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting a woman on New Year’s Day.
Gavin Donovan Queenan, 32, was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on a felony charge of strangulation, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.
According to court documents, the victim told police that she and Queenan had been up all night arguing at her home on the 1100 block of Sixth Avenue.
The argument escalated and Queenan wrapped his arm around her throat, pushed her face/head into the wall and used his hand to squeeze her throat until she couldn’t breathe, police reported.
He then threw her to the ground and wrapped his arm around her again, she reported. The victim screamed, which alerted the children in the home, according to police.
In talking to police, a juvenile corroborated the victim’s story, the report states.
Police noted that items in the living and dining rooms were disheveled and broken, consistent with the reported incident.
Unable to post $100,000 bail, Queenan was remanded to the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio.
