Williamsburg Community School Board re-elects two officials
Two longtime Williamsburg Community School Board members were unanimously approved to retain their positions as board officials during Tuesday night’s meeting.
Barry England has served on the board as both a member and board official for more than 30 years, while Benjamin Postles has served as vice president for more than 10 years.
“I’m very honored,” England said.
Every year, he tells the board that “we’re here for one reason: to educate our kids.”
While they may be a small school, he added that they give kids “a good education.”
England has been on the board for “a long time,” Superintendent Lisa Murgas said.
Because the previous board treasurer, Patricia Kensinger, is no longer on the board, they unanimously voted for Billie Jo Greaser to fill the vacancy. She rejected the one-year term stipend of $700, according to business manager Kalie Zabrosky.
Greaser, along with Christina Neri and Jay Detwiler, was also sworn onto the board Tuesday night.
Zabrosky was “excited” for the trio to join the board, as they are all newcomers.
“I think they will be a good fit for the school district,” she said.
“Our board has come together and worked together to provide a quality education for students in our community,” she said, adding that she looks forward to working “as a team.”
In other business, the board approved a resolution recognizing the Lady Pirate Basketball Boosters as an official booster club affiliated with the district.
To raise money, the club needed a small games of chance license, Murgas said. To receive that license, the board was required to approve a resolution officially recognizing the club.
Murgas said the board was “in favor” of supporting this club, as it raises money for sports programs.
All were present at the meeting except board member and Altoona police officer Joseph Detwiler, as he was testifying against Luigi Magione during a pre-trial hearing in New York City.
