Spring Cove School Board swears in new members
Acker-Knisley chosen as school board president
ROARING SPRING — The Spring Cove School Board swore in two newcomers, one incumbent and one returning board member at Tuesday’s reorganization meeting.
Erika Smith, Alyssa McGregor, Amy Acker-Knisley and Samantha Snowberger raised their right hands while taking the oath of office.
Acker-Knisley was also appointed as board president with a 5-4 vote. She previously held the position of board vice president.
“I plan to try to get this board to work together to move the district forward to do what’s best for students,” Acker-Knisley said after the meeting.
Troy Wright, the previous board president, resumed his seat as board member, as he is up for re-election in 2027.
Acker-Knisley then facilitated the vote for the board vice president position, which Gretchen Bettwy filled with a 6-3 vote.
Board member Andrea Moses was unanimously approved as board treasurer to fill a vacancy caused by former member John Biddle’s departure.
In other business, the Dragon Pride Foundation recently received an anonymous $5,000 donation, along with a $900 donation, in memory of Charlotta McCreary, a mother whose children were part of the Spring Cove district, according to Superintendent Betsy Baker.
They also received a total of $7,000 in Educational Improvement Tax Credit donations from Hometown Bank, First National Bank and Mid Penn Bank.
While an EITC donation is typical, Baker said an anonymous $5,000 donation is extra.
“We don’t always get that,” she said.
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the foundation gives students opportunities to benefit from educational, art and athletic programs at Spring Cove.
The next committee of the whole meeting is slated for Jan. 12, 2026.
