Sexually violent predator who traveled from California to meet teen gets 75-150 years

Robison assaulted teen he traveled from Calif. to meet

HOLLIDAYSBURG — A California man who traveled to Blair County to meet up with a 14-year-old girl he met online was sentenced Monday to 75 to 150 years in prison.

Don Albert Robison, 44, of Milpitas, Calif., was convicted in February of three felony counts of unlawful contact with a minor, single felony counts of corruption of minors and criminal use of a communication facility, as well as two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault of a child less than 16 years of age.

Judge Jackie Atherton Bernard, who presided over Robison’s sentencing and oversaw his trial, deemed Robison to be a sexually violent predator based on an evaluation completed by the state Sexual Offender Assessment Board.

Bernard then sentenced him to 75 to 150 years’ incarceration.

The Blair County charges were brought against Robison in January 2023, following a yearlong joint investigation by Altoona police and the state Attorney General’s Office that began in January 2022.

The investigation revealed that Robison met the victim over a computer game called Roblox, where they would go to a house and pretend to be a domestic couple.

At that time, Robison was posing as a 13-year-old boy to befriend the victim, but later revealed himself to be a 40-year-old man going by “Johnny Smith.”

He then made the five-day drive from California to Blair County, where he instructed the victim on how to disable her home’s security cameras and to leave a ladder outside her home so he could access her second floor bedroom through a window. Once inside, he sexually assaulted her.

In a news release, state Attorney General David Sunday described Robison as “a potential threat to any and every child in a free society. … (Robison) manipulated this child into feeling a false sense of security and entered their home to commit truly evil acts.”

Robison has a second case pending in Blair County, in which he is facing charges of felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor simple assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12.

California’s Megan’s Law website shows Robison was registered there as a sex offender after a 2016 conviction of lewd or lascivious acts with a child 14 or 15 years of age. He was also convicted of indecent exposure that same year. It’s unclear if they were the same case.
