Spirit of Christmas parade is Saturday

Altoona’s Spirit of Christmas parade will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.

The parade route is Ninth Avenue to 17th Street to 12th Avenue to 12th Street to 11th Avenue and 16th Street.

During the parade, Amtran is hosting its fourth annual “Stuff the Bus” food drive. The bus company is also hosting the event at the Tyrone parade.

Those attending either parade are urged to bring nonperishable food items to donate to the bus that will be on the parade route.

Donations will go to the Altoona Food Bank, the Tyrone Food Bank and the Mountain Lion Backpack program.

Also Saturday, Party in the Plaza will be held from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at Heritage Plaza, 11th Avenue and 14th Street, Altoona.

There will be free hot chocolate, a petting zoo, holiday music and a tree lighting by Mayor Matt Pacifico. Santa will be available for photos after the parade.

Tyrone Yuletyme events continue Saturday

Tyrone’s Yuletyme celebration continues Saturday with a holiday craft show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Armory. The Yuletyme Christmas Parade will be held at 5 p.m.

Children can mail letters to Santa at the mailbox at City Hotel Park. Elves will be collecting the letters during the parade and up through Dec. 9.

Lights at Reservoir Park will be on from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 5-7, Dec. 12-14 and Dec. 19-22.
