Altoona woman held in assault on UPMC officer denied bail
Stotler allegedly tried to evade arrest, disarm police officer
A city woman who allegedly tried to disarm a UPMC officer Saturday evening is behind bars with bail denied.
Megan J. Stotler, 35, was asked to leave a patient’s room due to disruptive behavior, but began yelling and causing a commotion, court documents state.
When officers notified Stotler that she was under arrest for disorderly conduct, she turned away and began running for the stairwell.
After a foot pursuit, she was taken into custody on the fourth floor of the outpatient center, police reported, but not before she kicked an officer in the shin and attempted to pull her arms away.
She was placed in a holding cell where she began to kick the door, police reported. At that time, police decided to put shackles on Stotler to stop her from hurting herself or breaking the door.
While attempting to place shackles on her, police said Stotler grabbed an officer’s firearm in an attempt to disarm him. She did remove the tourniquet from the holster, the report states.
Stotler was arraigned Sunday morning before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on felony charges of aggravated assault, disarming an officer and escape, along with misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Bail was denied due to Stotler being out on bail for two pending resisting arrest cases and other charges, court documents state.
She is being held in the Blair County Prison with her preliminary hearing set for Jan. 7 before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio.
