A city man has been denied bail after allegedly punching a woman until her face was unrecognizable.

Alpatchino D. Jeune, 28, was arrested Sunday and arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Andrew L. Blattenberger on felony charges of aggravated assault and strangulation, along with misdemeanor charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and tampering with evidence and a summary charge of harassment.

According to the report, Altoona police were dispatched to UPMC Altoona about 10:52 a.m. Sunday to investigate an assault after the female victim entered the hospital Emergency Room, having been dropped off by Jeune.

The victim appeared with serious injuries including her eyes being swollen shut and her face being unrecognizable, according to police. She told UPMC Altoona Police that Jeune had just beaten her and threatened her with a knife. The incident occurred on the 2100 block of 11th Avenue, police reported.

During the investigation, police learned that the victim and Jeune were talking about the woman traveling out with friends on her birthday. Jeune became enraged when he found out there would be other men present.

The victim told police that Jeune got on top of her and repeatedly punched her in the face. When she told him that she could not breathe, he stood up and put his foot across her throat.

When she told him again that she could not breathe, Jeune pointed a pocketknife at her and told her multiple times that he was going to kill her and no one would ever find out.

Eventually, Jeune took the victim to the bathroom, washed her and dressed her in clean clothes before driving her to the hospital, the report states.

Police made contact with Jeune at the home on the 2100 block of 11th Avenue. After taking him into custody, officers checked the residence and reportedly observed evidence consistent with an altercation having taken place inside.

Jeune is being housed in the Blair County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 7 before Magisterial District Judge Benjamin F. Jones.

Bail was denied due to Jeune’s “extensive criminal history,” court documents state, noting he was on probation during this alleged attack and “no conditions can ensure the safety of the public.”

In 2023, Jeune was charged with simple assault in Cambria County.

While online court documents do not list any other Pennsylvania cases against Jeune, an online search turned up several cases out of Florida, including a 2022 assault on a pregnant woman. He also has convictions for burglary, criminal mischief, grand theft, resisting arrest and theft, according to information found online.
