Monday event celebrates Marine Corps, veterans
The Cambria County Veterans’ Affairs Office and the Johnstown Generals Veterans’ Hockey Team will host a ceremony in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps and Veterans Day at 11 a.m. today, Monday, Nov. 10, at the Cambria County Courthouse, 200 S. Center St., Ebensburg. The event is open to the public.
The ceremony will pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans and commemorate the proud 250-year history of the United States Marine Corps.
The Johnstown Generals are a veterans’ hockey team that provides an outlet for active-duty service members and military veterans to improve their physical and mental well-being through hockey and fellowship. The team is also dedicated to community outreach and raising awareness of issues affecting veterans and their families.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held inside the Courthouse Rotunda.
Altoona parade, ceremony scheduled for downtown
The City of Altoona Veterans Day parade, hosted by the Blair County War Veterans Council, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The parade starts at Eighth Avenue and 17th Street, then progresses to 12th Avenue to 12th Street and on to 11th Avenue and 16th Street.
A ceremony will follow at Robert E. Laws Veterans Mall, 11th Avenue and 14th Street.

Patton plans Veterans Day services, luncheon
Veteran Posts Walter McCoy American Legion 614 and John White VFW Post 779 will conduct their Veterans Day services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11. Veterans should assemble at the Veterans Memorial at Patton Park no later than 10:45 a.m.
After the memorial service at the park, veterans will conduct a service in front of John White VFW Post 779, Main Street, then proceed to the Walter McCoy American Legion Post 614, Fifth Avenue, where a similar service will be held.
A luncheon will be served at the Legion Post for all participating veterans.
Any local veteran can have their name added to the Veteran Memorial at Patton Park. Applications are available at the Patton Borough Office.
Johnstown parade to kick off at 4 p.m.
The Conemaugh Valley Veterans will be hosting its 28th Annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony in Johnstown at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The regular parade lineup of bands, military vehicles/equipment, and local community/veterans’ groups will begin at the intersection of Main and Union streets and end at Clinton Street.
Upon the completion of the parade, a ceremony will be held on Main Street in front of City Hall. State Sen. Wayne Langerholc will be this year’s guest speaker.
