Police: Tyrone man had child porn
Wilson faces 49 charges
A Tyrone man who allegedly searched for, viewed and uploaded child pornography videos was arrested and charged after a lengthy investigation that began in April 2024.
Derek Michael Wilson, 26, was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge Carmine W. Prestia Jr. on 49 charges — 14 felony counts of sexual abuse of children – disseminating photo/film of child sex acts, 10 felony counts of sexual abuse of children – material, one felony count of criminal use of a communication facility, 14 misdemeanor counts of design/copy obscene material depicting a minor and 10 misdemeanor counts of design/copy obscene material.
He was released on $25,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 2 before Prestia.
The investigation began April 18, 2024, when the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children received a report from X Corp., formerly Twitter, that a user had apparent child pornography in their Direct Message folder. Through an investigation, it was found the folder had 515 files, a few of which were male genitalia and the majority were photos of post pubescent females, some clothed, some in swimwear and some nude, the report states.
A video that depicted a teen girl was in violation of the law and considered sexual abuse of children, according the affidavit.
Through subpoenas and further investigation, Wilson was linked to the account. When interviewed last year, he said he had been trying to change and sought counseling.
Police said the investigation showed Wilson made search inquiries in an effort to find files depicting the sexual abuse of children.
He is also accused of uploading 14 files that depict sexual abuse of children, the report states.
