Blair County NAACP announces Freedom Fund Gala honorees

The Blair County Branch of the NAACP 2252 has announced the distinguished honorees for its 2025 Freedom Fund Gala, to be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Heritage Discovery Center, 1421 12th Ave., Altoona.

This year’s Gala will celebrate individuals and organizations whose leadership, advocacy and service have made a lasting impact on civil rights, community uplift and interfaith collaboration. The 2025 honorees include:

– The Rev. Paul Johnson will receive the Legacy of Leadership Award, honoring a lifetime of advocacy, service or civil rights leadership.

– Daniel W. Hogans will receive the Heritage Award, honoring a lifetime of values and service given to the country and community.

– Carolyn Kline will receive the Cultural Stewardship Award, which celebrates individuals or organizations preserving African American history, heritage or sacred spaces.

– Jeremiah Witherspoon will receive the Unsung Hero Recognition, which spotlights grassroots leaders making quiet but impactful contributions — no spotlight, just heart.

– Shared by Faith Initiative of the Central Pennsylvania Episcopal Diocese will receive the President’s Award for their outreach and collaboration with the Blair County branch of the NAACP, resulting in the establishment of Juneteenth Jubilee and the restoration of the historic Eastern Light Cemetery in Altoona.

The Freedom Fund Gala is the branch’s signature event, bringing together civic leaders, community members and supporters to honor those who exemplify the NAACP’s mission of equality and justice. The evening will feature keynote speakers, live entertainment and a celebration of local excellence.
