Blair County sees few issues with ballot processing
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The 2025 general election proceeded largely without issue despite a number of temporary technical issues, according to county election officials.
An unexpectedly high amount of traffic to the Blair County election website temporarily shut down the system shortly after polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to Director of Elections Sarah Seymour.
The issue was quickly resolved and election workers were able to upload the unofficial vote returns less than an hour later.
Just more than 35% of the 81,400 registered voters in Blair County cast votes in the general election, with 24,152 on election day and another 5,005 mailed in advance.
This number is in-line with the average turnout of previous county elections in non-presidential, non-midterm years, Seymour said.
Marquee contests at the top of the ballot typically drive turnout for smaller local races, which typically do not receive the same attention, so a turnout total about 30% is expected, Seymour said.
Outside of a handful of paper jams at individual precincts, election workers were able to process the majority of ballots by 10 p.m., with the final remaining precincts reporting shortly after.
About 1,700 mail-in ballots remain to be counted, Seymour said, so some tight races could turn by the time the unofficial results are posted on Friday.
Seymour credited the “excellent work” of her election staff in ensuring everything ran as smoothly as possible throughout the day, with no major issues reported at any precinct location.
