Hollidaysburg Borough Council OKs expanding courthouse parking district

2 min read

Hollidaysburg Borough Council on Thursday approved the expansion of the courthouse parking district due to the closure of the Mulberry Street parking garage.

According to borough Manager Ethan Imhoff, Blair County commissioners closed the garage after finding structural concerns that posed a risk to public safety. Since that time, Imhoff said the borough has received numerous complaints from residents nearby who have struggled to find a place to park near their homes after leaving for any amount of time. Blair County workers have had to expand their search area for spaces to occupy while working at either the prison or the courthouse and borough residents have paid the price.

According to the adopted ordinance, the courthouse district would stretch into the 300 and 400 blocks of Mulberry Street and the 300 block of Union Street. It would also eliminate a loading zone space on the 500 block of Mulberry.

Imhoff said the council will also likely create another ordinance in the future to cover the 400 block of Spruce Street, but they did not have time before the meeting to include it in the ordinance approved Thursday.

In other business, the council voted to put the preliminary 2026 budget up for public display for 30 days. While there was no discussion or review during Thursday's meeting, Imhoff said the council will be scheduling a public workshop on a date to be determined later in October.

The budget is available for review online at hollidaysburgpa.org and in the borough municipal building upon request.
