Due to the weather forecast predicting a near 100% chance of rain today, mixed with thunderstorms and wind, several organizations have changed their Halloween plans.
The City of Altoona and Logan Township will hold Trick or Treat night from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
– Following the city's lead, trunk or treat at the Twenty-eighth Street Church of the Brethren, 28th Street and Union Avenue, has been moved to Friday, also from 6 to 8 p.m.
– Wehnwood United Methodist Church, 2511 Juniata Gap Road, Altoona, has changed their trunk or treat to Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be games, a fire truck, hot dogs and snacks, as well as trunk-or-treat in the church parking lot.
Events tonight
Opting to brave the weather, Hollidaysburg Borough announced on its Facebook page that trick or treat will be held tonight, Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m.
– In keeping with the borough, Grace Bible Church, 164 Laurel Lane, Hollidaysburg, announced that the fun is still on, but the trunk or treat will move indoors. There will be "trunks" decorated and ready to hand out treats, hot dogs and doughnuts, along with a puppet show and indoor bounce houses.
– Claysburg will also continue with trick or treat night tonight. In addition, trick or treat in Claysburg Community Park will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is to include a photo booth, costume contest, hot dogs, haunted bounce house, candy and light sticks. Those attending the event are urged to bring nonperishable food for the Claysburg Food Bank, which is in need of cereal, baking mixes and soup.
Fun continues Saturday
Tyrone Borough will observe trick or treat night from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
The remaining areas of Blair County are expected to observe trick or treat night from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 30, although residents are urged to call their local municipal office to make sure.
The Blair County Sheriff's Office reminds parents/guardians to walk with small children, wear visible clothing and check all candy before allowing children to eat it. If anything suspicious is found, law enforcement should be contacted immediately.
Drivers are reminded to watch for pedestrians and use extreme caution as Halloween events occur during the next several days.
