Johnstown shooting death ruled homicide

2 min read

A shooting death in Johnstown Sunday evening was ruled a homicide after the victim succumbed to massive blood loss, according to a joint release by the Cambria County Coroner Jeffrey Lees and District Attorney Greg Neugebauer.

Cambria County 911 received reports of shots fired near Buildings 14 and 15 of Solomon Homes about 7 p.m. Sunday. Johnstown resident Aquon Tillman, 17, was shot multiple times and ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Lees performed an autopsy and ruled the cause of death as massive blood loss due to gunshot wounds, with the manner of death as homicide, the release states.

The individual who allegedly fired the fatal shots has fully cooperated with police and surrendered the firearm used in the shooting to authorities. While no arrests have been made, the incident remains under review by the DA's Office for "possible justified use of force in defense of self" or others pursuant to state Stand Your Ground laws and general self-defense principles, according to the release.

Johnstown police processed the scene, secured evidence and performed interviews. The release states that, based on officers' findings, two firearms were used in the shooting, including one believed to have been used by Tillman, which has not been recovered. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Johnstown Police Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations by calling 814-539-2504.
