Three Cambria Heights School Board members each received certificates from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association Tuesday for 10 years of service to the district.
Jerry Brant, Thomas Bearer and Russell Miller have collectively provided 34 years of experience to the school board, Superintendent Ken Kerchenske said.
“The neat part is that each one represents a different region on the school board,” Kerchenske said. “They’re all very active in their communities outside of the school as well.”
Miller represents the district’s first region, according to his biography on the Cambria Heights website. He is a 1986 graduate of the district who earned a medical doctorate from the Penn State College of Medicine in 1994.
According to Kerchenske, Miller is a volunteer for St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Patton Garden Club, among other organizations.

Brant represents the district’s second region and is the Patton Volunteer Fire Department’s first assistant fire chief, Kerchenske said.
Bearer is a 1989 graduate of Cambria Heights who has been a volunteer at St. Benedict Church in Carrolltown for a long time, Kerchenske said, noting Bearer is also a past president of the Carrolltown Park and Recreation committee.
During Tuesday’s school board meeting, Kerchenske provided the board with updates to the elementary school’s construction project.
Kerchenske said almost all of the school’s interior and exterior lighting has been replaced with LED lighting. About half of the classrooms will have air conditioning for the start of the 2025-26 academic year today, he said, noting the other half will have air conditioning within a month.
Now that school is back in session, contractors are going to work second shift after students are dismissed for the day, Kerchenske said.

The district is in the early planning stages of getting a rooftop solar array installed at the elementary school, Kerchenske said.
“We’re still in the design and ordering phase there,” he said.
