A chase through the city early Friday morning resulted in the arrest of a juvenile who allegedly hotwired and stole a vehicle.
According to Altoona police, officers attempted to stop a vehicle about 12:03 a.m. in the area of 17th Street and Seventh Avenue because the vehicle's headlights were not on.
The driver did not stop and a pursuit ensued westbound on Seventh Avenue from 17th Street. As the pursuit continued, the driver went from Seventh Avenue onto Logan Boulevard and then to Plank Road before exiting onto I-99 southbound just past the Logan Valley Mall area.
APD officers terminated the pursuit on I-99 as it entered a work zone and became too dangerous.
State police out of Bedford located the vehicle a short time later on I-99, stopped it and took the driver into custody.
Police said the driver was identified as a male juvenile from the city. He allegedly admitted to state troopers that he saw the vehicle parked in an alley in the city, broke the front driver window, then hotwired and stole the vehicle.
Soon after, the juvenile said he got on 17th Street, where Altoona police attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The juvenile is facing charges of felony theft of a motor vehicle, felony fleeing or attempting to elude police, along with misdemeanor reckless endangerment and several traffic related offenses, police reported.
