Windmill superloads may slow traffic through PennDOT District 9 counties

PennDOT issues alert on possible delays Thursday

PennDOT has announced the potential for lengthy delays from the continued movement of superloads consisting of windmill blades and tower and turbine parts through the PennDOT District 9 counties of Bedford, Blair, Cambria and Somerset through mid-September.

The next superloads are scheduled for Thursday, July 10, and include windmill blades and mid-tower sections.

The travel routes vary and may include Bedford County – U.S. 220 and Interstate 99 (I-99); Blair County – I-99 and U.S. 22; Cambria County – Route 22, Route 219, Route 4013 (Sunset Road) and Route 36; and Somerset County – Route 219.

The superloads, which include windmill blades, tower components and nacelle (turbine housing) destined for the CPV Rogue’s Wind facility near Patton, will move as a rolling slowdown using two traffic lanes, which will result in traffic stoppages and travel delays.

Drivers should remain alert for these slow-moving, two-lane operations and use alternate routes when possible.

Traveling approximately 25-30 miles per hour, or slower as needed, superloads will occasionally pull over to allow traffic to pass.

Starting at $2.99/week.
