Johnstown drug and alcohol treatment facility awarded laptops

State Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr., R-Cambria, and state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, announced the awarding of 80 laptops to help a Johnstown drug and alcohol treatment facility do its critical work.
The laptops, awarded to Peniel Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facility, will allow users to connect to high-speed internet for essential services, including work and education, as well as be used to promote digital literacy.
The laptops were awarded by the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority as part of a competitively awarded grant process. It's part of the broader mission to strengthen community infrastructure and create accessible public spaces that serve as lifelines for work, education and health.
Fulton County jury convicts man
A Fulton County jury on Wednesday convicted Nicholas Hendershot, 24, of strangling his girlfriend during a domestic dispute last year.
According to testimony, Hendershot and the victim got into an argument in front of their two young children over Hendershot installing a camera to watch the victim while he was at work. The argument escalated and Hendershot grabbed the victim by the neck and held a tight grip.
At trial, the victim testified that she began to lose consciousness when Hendershot grabbed her by the neck. When Hendershot let the victim up, she called for help and reported the incident to state police.
This case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Julia Van Leeuwen and Senior Deputy Attorney General Jaime Keating.
Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 9. Hendershot will remain in custody due to multiple violations of no-contact provisions of a previous bail order.
Skywalk to reopen for fall
The Skywalk at Kinzua Bridge State Park will temporarily reopen beginning Aug. 8, giving visitors a chance to experience breathtaking views of the Kinzua Valley at peak leaf-peeping season.
The park's world-class, interactive visitor center and PA Wilds Conservation Gift Shop remain open year-round, while the Skywalk and Kinzua Creek Trail have been closed for ongoing viaduct rehabilitation.
For fall leaf viewing season, the Skywalk and trail are scheduled to open from Aug. 8 through Oct. 31. After that, both areas will close again so contractors can resume work on the structure. A second temporary reopening is already planned for fall 2026.
The Kinzua Bridge State Park is in Mount Jewett, McKean County.
