BEDFORD -- Slaytons' BearDance has emerged as a leader in Hereford cattle genetics, taking top honors at both the 2025 Pennsylvania and West Virginia Performance-Tested Bull Sales. This is the second year in a row the farm has received top marks as their bulls claimed the highest indexing and top-selling spots at each event.
The Pennsylvania Livestock Evaluation Center and the Wardensville Performance-Tested Bull Sale are renowned for their rigorous testing programs, ensuring that only the finest bulls with superior genetics and performance characteristics are offered to buyers. All sale bulls are required to pass Breeding Soundness Exams before they sell.
At both test centers, BearDance bulls exceeded expectations in key areas of functionality, structural soundness and overall performance metrics. Four of the top five Hereford bulls at the Pennsylvania test were from BearDance. In West Virginia, five of the top seven indexing Herefords were also from BearDance.
Held at the Pennsylvania Livestock Evaluation Center in Pennsylvania Furnace, the 2025 Performance-Tested Bull Sale showcased BearDance's standout bull Slayton Mordechai 425 of 9337, who earned the highest overall index of Herefords. Mordechai 425 posted exceptional numbers.
At the Wardensville Performance-Tested Bull Sale, BearDance struck again. Their entry, Slayton 421 Masterkey, topped the Hereford bull sale both in performance and price.
Buyers across the region noted the consistency and structural soundness of BearDance bulls, with many repeat customers returning for second and third generations of BearDance sires.
"This back-to-back success validates the long-term investment we've made in data-driven, balanced-trait selection," said Paul Slayton, owner of Slaytons' BearDance farm. "We're not just breeding for numbers, we're breeding bulls that work in real-world environments."
BearDance Farm's bulls are developed under a disciplined program emphasizing soundness, disposition, maternal quality and carcass merit -- traits that continue to resonate with both commercial and registered cattle producers.
