A Morrisdale man who tried to park in a full lot at People’s Natural Gas Field faces felony charges after allegedly using his vehicle to strike a parking attendant during an argument.
According to Logan Township Police, Lance D. Witherow, 64, was upset that he was told to park in another lot on Thursday because the lot he was attempting to park in was full.
The victim, who was directing traffic, told police an argument ensued. Witherow got on his cellphone and appeared to be speaking to someone as he began to drive his vehicle forward, striking the victim and knocking him to the ground, the report states.
Witherow then fled the scene and was later located by Logan Township police. Witherow did admit to striking the victim and fleeing the scene, police reported.
Witnesses on scene said they saw Witherow arguing with the victim. At that time, he began to move his vehicle forward, striking the man’s leg. This happened a few times before Witherow rapidly accelerated, striking the victim, who fell backward, witnesses told police. The victim suffered head and back injuries, police reported.
Witherow was arraigned Friday before Magisterial District Judge Matthew Dunio on two felony charges of aggravated assault and a felony charge of aggravated assault with a vehicle, along with a misdemeanor charge of accidents involving personal injury and summary charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.
He was remanded to the Blair County Prison. He posted $50,000 bail and was released from custody.
His preliminary hearing is set for June 26 before Dunio.
