"Hotel California," "One of these Nights" and "Desperado" are hits the "definitive" Eagles tribute band, Alter Eagles, plan to perform at 6 p.m. Aug. 3 at the Blair County Convention Center, Altoona.
Hosted by nonprofit organization ArtsAltoona, the event will include live music performed by the tribute band, a cash bar and handmade merchandise.
Not only will attendees be able to enjoy their favorite songs from the '70s, but they can help raise money for the ArtsAltoona organization.
According to Catherine Newman, ArtsAltoona administrative director, the heating, ventilation, and air cooling system in their main performance space stopped working, leaving the building without heat or air conditioning. Currently, they are raising money to afford a new HVAC system along with other renovation projects.
"We have been doing so much to stay afloat with all of our roadblocks happening," Newman said, referencing the renovation issues ArtsAltoona has been recently facing.
To help out, Alter Eagles plans on donating a portion of their sales to the ArtsAltoona organization, she said.
Donna Gority, president of the ArtsAltoona board, is looking forward to the event, especially since she attended a Simon and Garfunkel tribute concert in Florida last year.
Gority thought a tribute band would be "so cool to bring to Altoona" after picking up a Classic Tributes Live business card at the concert.
"Altoona is a music town," Gority said. "My hope is that people enjoy the tribute and come back in future years when we host more tribute bands."
Being the organization's first concert fundraiser, they opted to hold the event at the Blair County Convention Center.
"We were glad to welcome ArtsAltoona in and let the community enjoy the event and the band," said Garrett Giedroc, the convention center sales and marketing manager.
To accommodate a larger concert audience, the organization rented out the convention center's ballroom. With a 16-by-24 foot stage, the space is expected to comfortably hold 600-700 people.
Gority believes this event will make people see the convention center as a place to host more events like concerts, "not just meetings and conferences."
The convention center enjoys supporting organizations like ArtsAltoona, Giedroc said.
Newman hopes that people will learn more about the nonprofit, especially since the event is expected to bring in a large crowd.
"This event is a chance to get people together, enjoy a fun evening and learn more about what we do," Newman said.
