Plans to construct a new Dollar General store in Snyder Township received a positive review Thursday from Blair County Planning Commission members.

Dollar General plans to construct a 10,640-square-foot store at 5495 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd. along the east side of the highway, across from the Village Pantry building, where another Dollar General store recently closed.

The project calls for 31 new parking spaces, installation of new and relocated utilities and stormwater infrastructure.

“We are currently in the due diligence phase for a new Dollar General location in Tyrone. This means we are reviewing the opportunity to add a new store in Blair County, but we have not committed to doing so just yet. Based on our current timeline, we anticipate having a final decision by late 2025,” said a Dollar General spokesperson in an email.

The plans propose a large infiltration basin east of the new building and parking lot.

It is recommended that the Blair County Conservation District review the proposed discharge design, including construction details for compliance with applicable best management practices related to concentrated discharge and erosion, according to Ryan Countryman of Stuart Consulting Group.

The review has not identified any issues of concern with the proposed development that might affect the Alleghenies Ahead comprehensive plan, Countryman said.

However, construction of a new Dollar General, which opened another store last year at 4578 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., may lead to additional traffic at the location.

“PennDOT may want to look at putting a red light there to slow traffic to give people better access in and out of those businesses,” member Todd Lewis said.

“I recommend a traffic study be done,” member Nick Ardizzone said.

Meanwhile, the Village Pantry plans to expand its business into the closed location, but a time frame for that project has not yet been determined, said Village Pantry and building owner Stephen Burkholder.
