Cresson library announces June events

The Cresson Public Library will hold a Goodwill fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28, and urges patrons and other community members to save up items to drop off during the event.

The Goodwill donation event will accept items that are in sellable condition and will give the library a donation based on the weight of the truck. Eligible Items include: clothing, linens, housewares, shoes, purses, toys, glassware, cooking accessories, pictures, sports equipment (no weights or exercise machines), tools, musical instruments, electronics (no TVs), jewelry, knick-knacks and light furniture (kitchen chairs, small tables).

The library is also holding a Gift Card Giveaway where one lucky winner will receive a $50 Shop ‘n Save gift card. Entries will be accepted through June 17. To enter, go to the Library’s Facebook page to both Like AND Follow Cresson Public Library on Facebook; share the post about the Gift Card drawing; comment on the post. Winners will be announced on Monday, June 23, on Facebook.

The library is in need of volunteers for the summer children’s program on a weekday, mid-morning. Volunteers must have clearances if over age 18.

The library will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth.

Other events at the library during June include:

— Pop-Up Craft Days: On Tuesday, June 3 and 17, children can stop by the library to make themed DIY crafts. All materials and instructions are provided for these DIYs on the table in the children’s section.

— Journey to the Center of a Seed: Join Master Gardener Joyce Long will be at the library at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, to present an educational talk for children about what is inside seeds that make them grow into plants. She will then help children transplant a plant to take home with them. RSVP by calling the library at 814-886-2619 so materials and plants can be prepared for everyone.

— Story Time and Activity Hour: A Special Story Time session with Lauren Lazzari of the United Way will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21. Lazzari will hand out free gift bags from the United Way, filled with books, flashcards and crayons for the early reader. RSVP by calling the library at 814-886-2619 to ensure enough gift bags are prepared.

— Colors Animals See children’s educational talk will be presented from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, by Suzann Rensel from Prince Gallitzin State Park.

— Story Stitchers are back through the end of summer. Participants will be making an embroidered bag from recycled shopping bags to tell a story. The intention is to create a theme, fill the bag, and then donate the bag to the library’s Fall Basket Raffle. Classes are held at 6 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of the month. All ages are welcome if able to thread a needle and sew. Space is limited. For information and to register, call the library at 814-886-2619.

— Nonfiction book sale will continue over the next few months during library hours while the books are being weeded. All proceeds directly benefit Cresson Public Library.

— Adult non-fiction: “Raising Hare.”
