Blair County Planning Commission members Thursday gave a positive review to plans for construction of a coffee shop and tanning salon in Altoona.
South Beach Tanning and Coffee Shop plans to construct a 3,564-square-foot two-story building at 2200 Pleasant Valley Blvd.
Plans call for a coffee shop on the first floor and a tanning salon on the second floor. Sixteen parking stalls are proposed. The coffee drive-through would provide stacking space for seven vehicles. The development would also include the addition of sidewalks in the adjacent rights-of-way.
The review of the project recommends that the City of Altoona review the materials it has received for compliance with buffer yard provisions and respond as appropriate. The city may already have the information it needs. The city might also need to highlight the issue to the applicant and request changes, said Ryan Countryman of Stuart Consulting Group.
"This site was an old gas station with tanks in the ground at one time. We need to request that an environmental certified clearance be included in the package," member Nick Ardizzone said.
