The Altoona Area School District will operate its annual Summer Food Service Program beginning June 9 and running through Aug. 1 at the following sites: Altoona Area Junior High School, Juniata and Pleasant Valley elementary schools. Sites will be closed on July 4.
Meals will be available free-of-charge for preschool and school-age children, 18 years of age or younger. Adults attending with their children may purchase a meal at a cost of $4.75, cash only.
Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All meals follow USDA school lunch guidelines to ensure they contain protein, fruit, vegetables, bread and milk. As this is a federal program, funding is dependent on student participation.
