A Bedford man was taken into custody for allegedly beating a woman unconscious following an argument.
Brent Lee Horton, 32, was arraigned Sunday by Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman on a single felony count of aggravated assault, a single misdemeanor count of simple assault, as well as a summary harassment charge. Unable to post $50,000 bail, he was remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility.
Officers with state police at Bedford responded to the 1000 block of Six Mile Run Road in Broad Top Township, Bedford County, about 7:03 p.m. Saturday for a report of an unconscious female lying in front of the Six Mile Run Fire Hall. While en route, dispatch informed officers the victim was now conscious and Horton was on scene threatening to "throat punch" the ambulance crew, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
Officers spoke with Horton and noted the scent of alcohol emanating from his breath. Horton said he was looking for the victim, that they had been drinking and the victim thought he had been "cheating," so she told him to "f*** off" before leaving, court documents state.
Officers then spoke with the victim, who was wearing a neck brace and had visible bruising and swelling to her forehead. They noted she also smelled like alcohol, was drunk, disoriented and struggled to keep her story straight. The victim said she and Horton were drinking when they left a friend's house on a four-wheeler. She told officers they were arguing, she fell off the four-wheeler and thought she might have been "knocked out," the police report states.
After further questioning, the victim said she really didn't know what happened. She told Horton she was going to call the police, at which point he left. When asked if her injuries came from a crash, the victim said she was unsure. The victim said she couldn't remember anything after the argument, until she woke up by an EMT in front of the fire department, the report states.
Officers also spoke with a witness, who said she was inside her residence when she heard yelling from two individuals on a four-wheeler. She told officers the male threw the female off the four-wheeler, "kicked the s*** out of her" and was "kicking her in the ribs." The witness said the male drove away without the female, according to the affidavit.
Horton is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Brian K. Baker on April 2.
