Tyrone man faces felony theft counts
Cantara accused of taking items from residence during eviction
CLEARFIELD — A Tyrone man is facing felony charges for removing an oil tank, furnace and hot water tank from a residence as he was being evicted from a Cooper Township residence in Clearfield County.
Police charged Roger Michael Cantara, 38, with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property last month for his actions in August 2021.
Cantara waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court in Clearfield County. The case now moves to the court of common pleas. His bail was set at $1,000.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, in September 2021, the owner of the residence contacted police. He explained that Cantara was served a 30-day eviction notice on Aug. 5, 2021. At that time, the items were still located in the home. When the owner arrived at the residence on Sept. 7, 2021, he discovered the items were gone and multiple windows were broken, he told police.
Witnesses reportedly told investigators that Cantara was in possession of the tanks and furnace. The total value of the items is listed in the criminal complaint as $2,600.
