Internet safety event offered
Presentation set for today
Blair Drug and Alcohol Partnerships has joined up with Family Services Inc. and Center for Child Justice for a special presentation on internet safety.
The event will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Altoona Area Public Library board room.
The presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 7 p.m.
Family Services Inc. Center for Child Justice will be presenting NetSmartz: Internet Safety for Parents, Guardians, and Communities. This will cover a range of topics with the goal of helping adults have a two-way conversation with their kids/teens about what they’re doing online, because technology can’t catch everything.
Blair Drug and Alcohol Partnerships will be presenting on the dangers of buying drugs online and important tips to keep kids and adults safe on the internet.
There has been an increase in CyberTipline reports. Last year, there was a 12% rise in reports made to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline. In 2023, the CyberTipline received 4,700 reports of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or other sexually exploitative content related to generative AI.
